Methodology

What enters the tracker, how scale is represented, and how records are corrected.

What belongs in the tracker

We include a workforce reduction only when a company statement, regulatory filing, or credible report explicitly connects the decision to artificial intelligence, AI-enabled automation, or an operating-model change centered on those systems.

A passing mention of AI is not enough. General cost cutting, offshoring, performance management, and ordinary restructuring are excluded unless the source makes the AI connection clear.

How scale is reported

Published headcounts are shown as reported. Approximate figures use a tilde, bounded figures retain symbols such as “less than” or “up to,” and reported ranges remain ranges. When a source provides only a percentage, the table shows that percentage rather than inventing a headcount.

The headline job-cut total includes only records with a usable numeric headcount. Percentages and ranges displayed in the table are not silently converted into the total.

Sources and event dates

We prefer company announcements and regulatory filings. When those are unavailable or incomplete, we use reporting from established publications that identifies the company, timing, and AI connection.

The event date is the announcement date whenever possible. Source links open the material supporting each record.

Duplicates and updates

Multiple stories about the same workforce action remain one record. Company, announcement date, scale, and source details are compared to prevent repeat coverage from becoming repeat layoffs.

If later reporting clarifies the scope, date, or rationale, the existing record is updated instead of adding a second event.

Corrections

Public reporting changes, and mistakes can happen. To flag a duplicate, incorrect figure, broken link, or stronger source, email hello@ai-layoffs.com with the company name and supporting URL.
