The Contract Ends
Meta decided to stop its contract with Telus International in Barcelona. This deal was the main source of work for the local unit, CCC Barcelona Digital Services. Because the contract was cancelled, Telus said it had to cut the jobs of everyone working on Meta projects.
The cuts affect moderators who reviewed content for Facebook and Instagram. They checked posts for hate speech, violence, and other rule-breaking material. Unions say this decision affects almost the entire workforce at this location.
Staff Sent Home
The news came suddenly. According to reports, managers told workers at the Glories Tower office to leave the building by noon. Staff members were placed on “gardening leave.” This means they are still technically employed and paid for now, but they do not have to come to work.
Unions UGT and CCOO are talking with the company. They want to make sure workers get fair severance pay. The unions said the company must follow strict rules for such a large layoff.
Why It Happened
Meta is changing how it handles safety on its platforms. The company is using more artificial intelligence (AI) to spot bad content. It is also moving some human review jobs to other parts of the world where costs are lower. This shift has led to job cuts at several third-party contractors, not just Telus.
